The year was 1968, the Vietnam War was raging, Robert Kennedy was shot, Hank Aaron hit his 500th home run, the Democratic Convention erupted in Chicago, Jackie Kennedy married Onassis, the Beatles released the White Album, future president George W. Bush joined the National Guard…AND Sal and Gene decided to open San Mateo’s first headshop. The name Magic Theatre was inspired by Herman Hesse’s book Steppenwolf. “The Magic Theatre, for madmen only-price of admission, your mind.”
